Victorian Bushfires One year on Anniversary

As communities touched by the February 2009 fires prepare to commemorate, an ecumenical service will be held for all Victorians to pay their respects to the 173 people who lost their lives and the thousands who have been affected.

The service will focus on remembrance, reflection and the communities affected by the fires.

The service will be streamed live on the Victorian Premier website (www.premier.vic.gov.au), be broadcast on ABC Local Radio and be televised via Sky TV News.

Further information is at the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority website (www.wewillrebuild.vic.gov.au/latest-news/481-one-year-on-anniversary-remembrance-service.html)

The Prime Minister has also resolved for the Australian National Flag to be flown at half-mast and for the nation to pause for a moment’s silence.
